As we prepare for the upcoming Vacation Rental Management Association's Conference (VRMA) at the end of October, it is important to think about how we can get the most of attending it. After all, conferences can be a major expense to most small businesses especially when it involves travel costs. Not only do we want to introduce our services to potential customers, we want to gain something from the planned seminars, discussions and activities. For years we have been preaching the benefits of cause marketing to our prospects but it never appears to take hold as much as we at Barefoot would like. Today, I was reading a blog posted by Hubspot, can be found here, and thought the translation was perfect for the vacation rental market.
Happy Holidays to everyone and we hope this holiday season treated you well. Sadly with the ringing in of this New Year, my first post-holiday blog comes with some bad news. Another market is being targeted by vacation rental scams, Lake Placid and the Olympic village has reported dozens of rental scams this holiday season.

In short, yes, but let me elaborate. Last week the Barefoot team travelled to the VRMA conference in Nashville TN. Aside from some great music, awesome food, and southern charm, there were some great things to be learned at the conference. Douglas Quinby, the VP of research at PhoCusWright gave an eye opening speech at the close of the show. My last blog got some mixed reviews after I wrote about the subpoena that Airbnb.com received. Some people liked it and we got a tweet out there, others were not so impressed with my views. So this week, I am glad to report that Airbnb.com has partnered with Pepsi Next to anchor its newest promotion.

Back in May I ran a blog about Neil Warren who had rented his room through the popular site Airbnb.com. This site has made news headlines a few times for its rental policies and the people who are avoiding laws and legislation while using the site. One member found renting a room was violating her condominium complex’s policies. Mr. Warren was in violation of several leasing laws for the city of New York. He however, decided it was best to continue renting his apartment to quests.
